Makoko, a sprawling informal settlement situated on the coast of mainland Lagos in Yaba Local Government, is a community plagued by neglect and struggling with a low quality of life. Characterized by makeshift structures, a third of the community is precariously built on stilts along the lagoon, while the remainder is situated on land. Despite these challenges, the residents of Makoko remain resilient and hopeful.
In response to their needs, our team embarked on a comprehensive outreach initiative, designed to bring hope, joy, and the message of the gospel to this marginalized community. On Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, we launched a home-to-home gospel presentation, partnering with local churches in the community to ensure a collaborative and effective outreach. This endeavour continued unabated until Thursday, December 5th, 2024.
Undeterred by the challenges posed by the community’s layout, our team took the gospel presentation to public places, ensuring that no one was left out of this transformative experience. Through this outreach initiative, we sought to demonstrate the love of Christ in a practical and meaningful way, bringing the messages of hope, joy, redemption and love to a community that sorely needs it.
On Friday, December 6th, 2024, we distributed gifts to the residents, including essential food items, toiletries, and gospel literature. These gifts served as a tangible expression of our love and concern for the community, demonstrating the love of Jesus and also assuring them that they are not forgotten or overlooked.
